Black Rock Soccer Field Project

Through a true grassroots effort, in the first year of this project, we have raised enough funds to secure the professional renderings required to obtain the land from the city. We have also completed several Consolidated Funding Applications through New York State, and have been negotiating with several private funding sources. This project is gaining support everyday, and we look to have full funding secured by the end of 2017.

Pitch in Buffalo - Black Rock is a coordinated effort spearheaded by the Buffalo Soccer Council, River Rock Community Coalition, Inc (RRCC) and the Grant-Amherst Business Association (GABA). The project plans to build a $160k soccer facility which will border the Scajaquada Creek, Wegmans and McKinley High School, utilizing vacant lots that are currently owned by the city.

Through a coordinated effort with the Buffalo State Rugby teams, United Steel Workers, and various other local volunteers, the RRCC was able to complete Phase 1 of this project, which was to weather seal the concrete structure of the local AMVETS Post at 25 Review Place.

For Phase 2 of this project, the RRCC hired local artist, Vinny Alejandro, to create a patriotic mural on the side of the AMVETS Post that faces Tonawanda Street. The mural design honors all of our nations veterans, as well as their branches of service, and brings a sense of pride back to the Riverside and Black Rock communities.

This project has been covered by the Riverside Review, Channel 4 and Buffalo Rising to date.
